European Champion 1956 and 1958. Vice-World Champion of 1958. And the Bronze-Medal of the Olympic Games in 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy). Ingrid Wendl born in 1940 in Vienna was already counted among the world’s best figure skaters when she still went to highschool.
The Austrian ice princess moved to the Wiener Eisrevue after her retirement from competitive figure skating. Together with other Austrian world-class figure skaters like Hanna Eigel, Hanna Walter and Eva Pawlik, she became one of the main performers of the famous Viennese ice skating show.
Ingrid Wendl started another career at the Austrian Broadcasting Cooperation (ORF) in 1972 after she had quiet skating in show. Many Austrians still know her as a sport commentator. But she also hosted popular ORF entertainment shows in the 1980s and 90s. In 2000 the former figure skater started off as a politician for the Austrians People’s Party (OeVP) and entered the Austrian parliament in 2002 as OeVP-spokeswoman for senior citizens.
